The government issues the Tamil Nadu Community Certificate to people who identify as members of the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and DE notified Tribes (DNT). To qualify for any of the government's benefits, reservations, or safeguards, a person must present this certificate as proof of their caste or community.


The Community Certificate in Tamil Nadu is issued by the state’s Revenue Department. It is mandatory to apply for this certificate online to get benefits in the employment and education segment from the Government of Tamil Nadu.




Documents Required for Community Certificate in Tamil Nadu

You need to submit the following documents to apply for the community certificate in Tamil Nadu:

  1. Passport size photograph
  2. Proof of address
  3. Self-declaration of the applicant
  4. Community certificate of father/ Community certificate of mother/ Community certificate of siblings

Register in TN eSevai Portal and Generate CAN Number

eSevai Registration

Given below are the steps to register in the eSevai portal:

  1. Firstly, visit the Tamil Nadu eSevai portal.
  2. Next, click on ‘Citizen Login’.
  1. For the new users, they need to click on the ‘New User’.
  2. Enter all the required details.
  3. You will receive an One Time Password (OTP) in your registered mobile number to register in the eSevai portal.
  4. Once you are registered to the portal, you have to log in to the website using your credentials.
  5. Next, choose ‘Revenue Department’.
  1. Select ‘REV-101 Community Certificate’.
  2. Next, click on ‘Proceed’.

An applicant can apply for the Community Certificate only if he or she has a unique Citizen Access Number (CAN). If an applicant does not have a unique CAN, he or she should register for the CAN first to get the access of the Community Certificate application form.



CAN Registration

The following are the steps to do CAN registration:

  1. Firstly, click on the 'Register CAN' button in order to apply for CAN registration.
  2. Now, enter all the required details in the prescribed format.
  3. Click on the 'Register' to submit the form.
  4. You also have to generate and verify the OTP before submitting the form.
  5. Once the registration is done successfully, the CAN number will be generated.

Apply Online for Community Certificate in Tamil Nadu

Given below are the steps to apply for Community Certificate online:

  1. First, you have to enter the CAN Number and search for the records.
  2. The applicant who has a unique CAN Number, his or her record will be displayed in the search results.
  3. Select the record by choosing the option button.
  1. Now, click on ‘Proceed’.
  2. The details of the applicant such as permanent address, current address, and contact details will be displayed  and these are non editable.
  3. You also have to mention the details of your family members.
  4. Mention the details of the community certificate form and click on ‘Submit’ button.
  5. Then, attach the documents in the prescribed file type and file size.
  1. Once the documents are uploaded, click on ‘Make Payment’.
  2. Once the payment is done, you will receive the acknowledgement receipt.
  3. Click on Print Receipt to download and print the receipt for future reference.

How to Check Status of Community Certificate in Tamil Nadu

The following are the steps to check status of Community Certificate in Tamil Nadu:

  1. Firstly, login to TN eSevai portal.
  2. Click on 'Check Status'.
  3. Enter Transaction Number or Application Number to track the application status.
  4. Click on 'Search' option.

Download Community Certificate in Tamil Nadu

Given below are the steps to download Community Certificate in Tamil Nadu:

  1. Firstly, login to TN eSevai portal.
  2. Click on ‘Check Status’.
  3. Enter the application number.
  4. Click on the Search button.

Apply Through eSevai Centre

The following are the steps through eSevai Centre:

  1. Visit the nearest eSevai centre.
  2. You have to let the know what kind of service you want to receive. You will be able to see the list of services.
  1. Next, submit the important documents and pay the charges.
  2. Once the payment is done, you need to collect the receipt.
  3. Results of the submitted application will be monitored and updated periodically.
